Brewer - starting salary £29,000 + benefits.
What will you be doing? And what are we looking for?
You’ll be taking a crucial role in bringing together the ingredients to make our outstanding beers. From our mainstays such as Axe Edge and our Lupulus X series of single hop beers to our famous sours, stouts and porters.
We package beer into casks, kegs, bottles and cans. Every step along the way is critical to maintaining the quality we achieve – and the Brewer is the bedrock of this process.
You’ll have involvement in development of new beers and new initiatives and will enjoy watching them go to market.
As a Brewer at Buxton, you’ll be taking joint responsibility for the entire process from controlling the malt delivery system to signing off QC on a batch in brite-tank, ready for packaging.
We have our barrel ageing program which has produced some of the best Imperial Stouts and other celebrated styles in the world – get involved to help create the next Buxton BA masterpieces.
You’ll love beer and brewing. You’ll have a keen eye for detail, and sound technical knowledge of brewing, process engineering and scientific method.
You’ll be maximising brewhouse efficiency, monitoring fermentations, dry-hopping (a LOT), nurturing yeast, performing detailed lab work and QC, training other staff, developing our procedures and processes and will be liaising with our packaging, sales and management teams.
You’ll have opportunities to create recipes and develop new beers and processes and
you can look forward to working in collaboration with some of the best breweries in the world, and travel to visit other brewers and representing Buxton Brewery at events here in the UK and overseas.
Who will you be working for?
You’ll be reporting to the Production Manager, working in a small, tight-knit team of brewers and assistants.
What is the brewhouse?
Our modern, HMI-controlled semi-auto 30hl brewhouse will be your instrument for creating amazing beers to delight our customers. (Its British-built, and was commissioned in August 2020. It’s a three-vessel (mash/lauter, kettle and whirlpool) system.
Experience & Qualifications -
You’ll have gained a solid 3 years’ experience brewing in a commercial brewery. Preferably you will have passed the IBD General Certificate in Brewing (and we will support you to advance to the next level of qualifications as well). Alternative qualifications and demonstrable knowledge and experience will also be accepted. You’ll be keen to advance your career at one of the best-equipped craft breweries in the UK. Provisional interview dates are week commencing June 20th and will involve an element of on-site practical work.
Need to relocate? We’ll help you to find somewhere and settle in. Want to commute to Buxton? We’ll take some of the burdens with our commuter/travel allowance worth up to £1,500 per year.
